Are We Teaching Health Education Too Early?

Lessons about personal, social and health matters including sex and relationships will be compulsory in all England's schools from ages five to 16. The government is currently reviewing the best way in which they can tackle the situation. Reports have shown that more than 1,000 people found two thirds would support sex lessons from the age of 11. Reviews of the education in the UK were taken out as Government officials said that current education is too 'patchy'.
Teaching health education to kids who are 11 is acceptable I suppose however teaching kids from the age of 5 I think is just too much. The department for Children, School and Families said the review of sex lessons had identified "a need to challenge the perception that sex and relationships education happened in a 'moral vacuum' in schools and says that parents and schools can and should work together to decide how best topics should be taught.
The Government are trying to improve the framework and moral understanding around which teachers can then talk about sex education later on in children's school lives.
I can understand the basic logic behind the scheme but personally I would never really notice the difference if this concept was not implemented. I cannot see the advantage of deploying this tactic to school children at such a young age, it just doesn't seem 'normal'. It feels as though it is too much at such a young age. I will have to stand corrected on my statements but in my opinion the concept of teaching young school children health education is not right.

Health Education Plan

You need to put your health first yet so many of us will leave our health at the bottom of the priority list, leaving it unattended until it gets to late and we fall into ill health.
We seem to take health for granted and that makes us feel invincible up to the point that our health fails and then we look at our health. This attitude is clearly wrong and it is up to you to take preventative action with your health and this will not only make you feel better and more energetic, you will also have your body literally thanking you and add years to your life.
The western culture, in particular the US and the UK are getting fatter and becoming overweight and obese. As a result of this more people are trying to slim down and lose some weight but the problem here is a lot of people are not trying to lose weight for the right reasons. Losing weight should be because you want to do it for yourself and not for any other reason such as your boyfriend / husband wants you to lose weight. The motivation needs to come from within for you to successfully lose and keep off the weight. How many times do people lose several pounds in weight only to put it back on within a few months.
It really is important that you "love yourself" before you decide to embark on losing the weight. Irrespective of your size now you must have the self belief and confidence in yourself that you not only look and feel good now but you are going to look and feel great after you start your new lifestyle choice, yes lifestyle choice and not a diet. It is so important that you incorporate your healthy living lifestyle into a way of life rather then having the mentality of doing a diet otherwise you are unfortunately more likely to fail.
Good luck in your lifestyle change and well done to making the decision to change.

Online Psychology: Continuing Education for The Mental Health Professional

Mental health professionals are always looking for ways to expand their sources of knowledge. Today, this often means finding online psychology continuing education courses they can use to not only broaden their own study, but earn credits that could aid them in their careers in a number of ways. Professional development past the point of a base education is a concept growing in popularity not only in the world of mental health, but in fields as diverse as teaching and stock trading. Further learning can lead to higher pay, better strategies, and advancements in your chosen field. There is a wealth of information to be had on the Internet; while not all sources are legitimate, of course, a reputable website can be an even better resource than a textbook, as it is continually updated with new information and debates. Here are some of the methods you can use to further your own betterment.
Online psychology continuing education courses are some of the easiest and most popular ways for a mental health professional to further their studies. These courses offer the busy professional a chance to earn credits and learn at their own leisure, rather than being at the behest of a difficult class schedule. This can make all the difference when it comes to being successful in such a program. These web based classes aren't limited to any particular area, either. Many community and full universities offer online classes and many will allow enrollment from out of state (though it will probably cost quite a lot more). There are also websites entirely devoted to offering e-courses, which provide another level of home-based learning. Many people find that the schedule-free aspect of this method of learning helps them to pursue knowledge based on personal interest instead of fear of academic penalty, helping them attain a much wider and more solid knowledge base in the field.
One of the most exciting opportunities these days for mental health professionals is the proliferation of online lectures and webinars. These videos and courses allow you to learn at the feet of the giants in the field, without spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars to fly to a big city and see them live. Often, these seminars are at least partially interactive and they provide a good opportunity to network with other interested parties, perhaps offering an additional way to further your career goals and aspirations.
Finally, don't overlook the importance of furthering your technical knowledge. Online psychology, continuing education courses included, is not immune to advancements in the way people use technology. Keeping up with the latest software and hardware innovations - particularly those which are specifically developed with the mental health field in mind - is essential to developing a thriving practice. There are many forms of software that can help anyone in any form of business streamline their tasks and free up their time. Any automated processes you can put into practice will give you that much more time to develop your professional career.

Homeopathy Courses - Enlightening Natural Health Education

Natural Health Education in the 21st Century

In recent times, there has been an increased shift toward natural health and wellness programs both here in America and abroad. Part of this evolution is due in part to the noninvasive nature of integrative and complementary medicines; and with the gaining popularity of these effective yet safe, alternative therapies, comes the necessity for natural healing educational courses.
Natural health schools provide a vast array of healing arts programs including acupuncture and Oriental medicine, chiropractic, energy medicine, homeopathy, naturopathy, massage therapy, and reflexology, among others. Some of the more popular natural health classes are designed to introduce individuals to healthcare disciplines like herbal medicine, aromatherapy and Reiki. But what many individuals do not know is that not only can they attain a comprehensive education in one of the aforementioned studies, but some of these courses result in a degree and/or licensure.
As an example, natural health programs in massage therapy almost always require students to become certified and licensed in the field. While many natural healing schools provide 300-hour training hours, a greater number of massage schools have begun offering 500+ hour massage programs to meet National certification standards.
Other natural health schools are much more course-intensive and require three to four years of practical training and education. For example, in a naturopathic program, students have the potential to earn their Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Degree (ND). In this particular course of study, students learn about homeopathy, herbs, natural pharmacology, somatic education, and other relative subject matter.
Of course there are many other natural health programs from which to choose, however, before enrolling in one, candidates should examine current trends, career outlook, and whether or not the prospective school offers financial aid programs, in addition to accreditation. Like traditional schools and colleges, natural health schools typically provided clinical internships, continuing education courses, and career placement assistance, as well as financial planning services.

The Significance of Health Care Education

Before we come to the practice of health care education, we must know the principles involved. Health care education brings together the art and science of medicine along with the principles and practice of general education. The link is to be found in the social and behavioral sciences which include sociology, psychology and social anthropology.
Health care education can not be 'given' to one person by another. It involves, among other things, the teaching, learning and inclusion of habits concerned with the objective of healthy living.
The definition adopted by World Health Organization in 1969 and the Alma Ata declaration adopted in 1978 provide a useful basis for formulating the aims and objectives of health care education that may be described as -
o To promote the proper use of healthcare service available to the general people.
o To encourage them to adopt and maintain health promoting lifestyle and practices.
o To develop interest, endow with newer knowledge, improve skills and change attitudes in making rational decisions to solve their own problems
o To stimulate the individual and community self-reliance and participation to achieve health development through individual and community involvement at every step from identifying problems to solving them.
The educational objectives are aimed to the group to be taught in the health care educational program. The objectives flow from the health needs which have been discovered or invented. They should be carefully and unambiguously defined in terms of knowledge to be acquired, behavior to be to be acquired or actions to be mastered. They must be pertinent if the program is to be appropriate and successful.
The focus of health education is on people and on action. Its goal is to make realistic improvements in the basic quality of life. Many health education programs hope, in some way, to influence behavior or attitudes. The implication of these newer concepts is that health care education is an integral part of the national health goals. The fact remains that effective health education has the potential for saving many lives than has any one research discovery in the foreseeable future.
We all know that 'Prevention is better than cure'. Health care education will bring us the knowledge how we can prevent the disease before it surfaces in any individual. In the US, more than 130 billion dollars are spent last year to treat the patients suffering from diseases. By paying one fifth of the amount, incidence of many fatal diseases can be prevented. The surplus amount can be spent to another developmental work for the society.
Healthcare educating will make the standard of living better. Therefore, the status of a particular society will be lifted up. Better habitation, living, education, trade will make us a better human being. This is particularly important for the developing countries where there is not enough money to spend treating diseases through modern approach. It is always better to spend some money to healthcare education in order to lift the level of health consciousness among the common people.

Health Education - The Key to a Healthy Life

Have you ever wondered why in spite of all your efforts you cannot stay absolutely fit and healthy, the way you have always dreamt to be? The answer is simple, due to our lack of knowledge about health and the human anatomy system. The more knowledge and understanding of the human anatomy we will have the easier it would be for us to remain healthy and fit.
According to a recent study, a vast majority of the American population are health illiterate. They either do not have enough health information or they are unable to interpret the available health information to control their health and maintain optimum fitness. It also showed, lack of information to be the most important factor contributing towards the majority deaths. Moreover, it was also determined that our illness are primarily a result of stress, food, environment, attitude, emotions or beliefs that triggers certain unhealthy behavior. So, to stay fit we need to refrain from such unhealthy behaviors and that can be distinguished only when there is enough information for us to differentiate between a healthy and harmful behavior. From this, the easiest and most important conclusion that we can arrive at is that we need more information about our health and the human anatomy.
Now, the second question is, do we really try to get enough health information? Today when the entire world is connected through the information highway on the internet it is really difficult to find a good reason for this lack of knowledge. Today more than 60% of the American adult population has access to the internet which is full of websites that would educate anyone about the details of health and human anatomy. There are even sites that provide you with anatomy animation that is both interesting and easier to understand the functioning of the human anatomy system. When medical students can use resources like this why don't we spend some time looking at these things? Animations of cardiovascular system or the animated display of how our eye works would definitely help anyone to have a better understanding of the systems and accordingly modify their behavior to remain fit and healthy.
A basic idea of cardiac physiology can be highly effective in understanding the detail of the simultaneous pressure characteristics in the heart (left atrium and left ventricle) and the blood flow through the different blood vessels during a cardiac cycle. In this rising trend of cardiac failures and increasing heart problems a basic understanding of the cardiovascular system can definitely be a major help to maintain a healthy body.
We must understand staying healthy is not difficult, all it requires is a bit of understanding of the human anatomy, how the different systems within our body work and some information on how we can make them work even better. We should make it a point to cultivate healthy habits that would help us to obtain the maximum level of fitness.

You, Your Health and the Whole Health Education

Did you ever stop to think why you are not able to take complete control of your health? The answer to the question can be found in the fact that most of us are, so to say, "health illiterate". In spite of the wealth of information available about the ways to improve our health by changing our present lifestyles, we do not know how to put them to our use. Plainly speaking, most of us do not even know that such information is available.
It has been established that approximately 70% of the deaths attributed to cancer could have been avoided by some simple changes in our life style and that the main cause of our illness or disease (dis-ease) is due to stress, junk food, the environment and our very attitudes. Even those of us who are aware of these facts choose to ignore them and continue to lead a lifestyle destined to send us to the vagaries and ravages of disease.
The situation is such that, in a world bursting at its seams with health related information, we are caught in a dilemma of not knowing how to use it for our personal health. But there seems to be a ray of hope. Whole Health Education is now providing us with a perspective on all aspects of our bodies from the physical to the mental and the spiritual to help us to stay healthy.
For instance, diabetes affects nearly 18 million Americans; there are 240 million people suffering from diabetes all over the world and one person is dying every ten seconds due to diabetes. This is a leading health concern. Health education can restore the health of people with such chronic diseases.
On the Physical and Structural aspects, Whole Health Education educates on what organs and what physical processes in our bodies fail that causes the onset of diabetes. It tells that it is the inability of the body to convert the sugar intake into energy required by the body and other related information.
Diabetes can cause Emotional and Social problems. This is what the Emotional and Social aspect of Whole Health Education teaches us. In what way does diabetes effect our emotion? Most often it results in a case of poor self esteem. The effects of the ups and downs of the sugar in the blood stream can destabilize our sense of security and make us anxiety prone and fearful.
Whole Health Education provides information on the nutritional side of the disease and tell us what foods we should take and what foods we should avoid when we are suffering from diabetes. It tells us to eat less and to eat right. That vegetables are the best bet in combination with lean meat and proteins from the likes of fish and chicken. In a situation where your blood sugar has fallen below the normal level it is not wise to eat grain or sugar but sprouted grain bread etc. which can be satisfying.
Whole Health Education transforms the way we look after ourselves providing you an understanding of our health concerns. And by giving us the information in a way that helps us to understand our disease helps us to not only resolve the problem but also understand the care we choose the have. We, then, become the core of our healing process.

Benefits of Public Health Education

Public health education can be considered an ambiguous term. It teaches the proper way to improve one's health, and can involve only one or two people, or the population of several countries. Anything that can seriously threaten the physical, mental, or spiritual health of a wide range of people, notably due to their interactions with one another, can be classified as a threat to the community's public health. This is why public health education becomes a necessary tool to aid people against the spread of potential diseases and illnesses. Five of the most important reasons of how public health education can prove beneficial are as follows:
1. People are able to learn how to prevent the spread of communicable diseases through the training and methods being taught in education. People are able to have better access to information regarding general prevention of diseases, including the knowledge of what to do and how to act during epidemics in their area. Certain diseases have their own individual prevention methods that people should be well aware of, and employing these techniques lessens the risk of being infected by possible diseases. Through public health education, even simple things such as wearing a flu mask in particularly affected areas, or knowing when to take vaccines for a particular illness that is prominent at that time of the year, always proves very effective in limiting the number of people affected annually.
2. More people are able to access private and public medical institutions to prevent diseases or medical conditions, or to better treat them. Without the benefits of a public health education, most people may feel healthy enough and not find the need to go for a general check-up. Being aware that it is necessary to see your doctor regularly is one of the important things learned in a good public health education. Most medical hospitals and clinics offer immunization or vaccine shots during the flu seasons, or when a general outbreak of hepatitis is going around, and a public health education ensures that more people know to go to these facilities and avail of the treatment, thereby lessening the amount of ill people.
3. People are able to adopt a healthier behavior to lessen the risk of diseases being spread among themselves. Keeping things cleaner around the house, opting to lessen or quit smoking altogether, or exercising more are just a few of the many different ways taught in public health education to combat sickness and improve one's lifestyle.
4. People become more aware of information relating to the disease, rather than believing in just public perception. Public health education not only deals with how to prevent illnesses, it also provides details of how a disease works, which may dispel some myths and fallacies about it in society. The HIV virus for example, can be spread through unprotected sexual intercourse, but not through activities such as kissing or touching. This also helps change a person's views towards someone infected, promoting more empathy rather than discrimination.
5. People are able to help and contribute to disease prevention by supporting or volunteering at health care facilities. Public health education is more than just spreading information; it also calls people to actively participate in aiding others. To be able to protect one's health, it is also necessary to protect the health of other people around you, and helps foster a more close-knit community and a better sense of camaraderie.
